Virgin Active South Africa
Virgin Active has rolled out a V-Sex programme to increase awareness and understanding of the sensitive issue of HIV and AIDS across its 74 clubs in South Africa. Over half of its 2,400 employees volunteered to find out their HIV status, and a robust programme of support and treatment has been put in place to support affected employees.
This initiative forms part of Virgin’s 0% challenge. Similar voluntary testing and treatment initiatives are being rolled out across other Virgin companies. This is supported by a Group-wide programme making our employees aware of ways they can keep happy and healthy, and educating them about what they can do to assist people who have been affected by HIV/AIDS – either close to home, or far away. Virgin Atlantic
Virgin Atlantic has undertaken a “Plane Speaking” survey of its employees to gauge whether people love working for the company and what the company can do to make it an even better place to work.
Similar surveys are run in a number of other Virgin businesses and where possible we ask consistent questions and capture this data in order to inform our Group level activities.
Virgin Group
The Group as a whole are building networks between and amongst its companies. We are also driving recognition of our most dedicated employees by running initiatives such as the annual Stars dinner, the Christmas raffle and Virgin Unite raffle. We have also built an understanding of the linkages between the different Group companies. We encourage the sharing of knowledge and talent amongst organisations in order to build our business capabilities and provide development opportunities for individual employees.
